The Citroen Basalt Vision, a new SUV-coupe from the French automaker, has made its global debut and officially launched in India in August 2024, with introductory prices starting at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This innovative model represents Citroen’s entry into the SUV-coupe segment, building upon the design language and platform shared with the Citroen C3 hatchback and C3 Aircross SUV. The Basalt Vision is designed to offer a unique blend of sporty styling, advanced features, and competitive pricing, making it an exciting addition to the SUV-coupe category.
Built on Citroen’s Common Modular Platform (CMP), which also underpins the C3 and C3 Aircross models, the Basalt Vision is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. This engine delivers 110 PS and up to 205 Nm of torque and is paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic, providing versatility and a dynamic driving experience. The platform ensures a solid foundation for enhanced performance and features, making the Basalt Vision a well-rounded option in its segment.
The design of the Citroen Basalt Vision incorporates familiar styling cues from the existing Citroen lineup while introducing distinctive elements unique to this model. The front of the vehicle features a split grille finished in chrome, flanked by split headlamp housings that create a recognizable yet fresh appearance. The side profile is marked by a sporty sloping roofline, squared-off wheel arches, and robust side body cladding. Dual-tone alloy wheels enhance its athletic stance, emphasizing the coupe-SUV hybrid design. At the rear, the Basalt Vision boasts an elevated boot lid and wraparound LED taillamps, complemented by a tall bumper with a chunky silver skid plate, adding to its rugged look.
Inside, the Basalt Vision draws inspiration from the C3 Aircross’s cabin layout while adding luxury and tech features. The interior includes cruise control, automatic climate control, a push-button start/stop system, and keyless entry. The 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital driver’s display provide a modern and connected driving experience. In terms of safety, the SUV-coupe offers comprehensive features such as six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ensuring a secure and comfortable ride.
The Citroen Basalt Vision is positioned as a strong contender in the compact SUV segment, competing with popular models like the Tata Curvv, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos. Its distinctive design, advanced features, and competitive pricing make it an appealing option for those seeking a modern and practical SUV-coupe. With its launch in India, the Basalt Vision is set to attract buyers looking for a stylish and feature-rich vehicle that stands out in the crowded automotive market.
