The sales data is out for the number of vehicles sold by the manufacturer in June. Variations in the sales numbers because of the heatwave affected the sales of four-wheelers and two-wheelers from the different brands. Some brands did well, but some still saw a decline in sales because of the losses. Let’s delve into the sales data released by the manufacturers to understand how many prospective buyers have purchased new cars.
The Sales made by Mahindra and Mahindra
Mahindra has numerous SUVs in its portfolio, including the Scorpio and the Thar. These SUVs have shown a massive contribution to the sales made by the brand in the market. The brand established itself as one of the largest SUV manufacturers in the Indian market by making sales of 40022 units. Their commercial vehicles also did well in the Indian market. Most farmers who buy a tractor prefer Mahindra for their reliability and robust service network that’s better than other competitor brands in the segment. One of the best examples is their OJA series tractors because the convenience features of these tractors have attracted Indian farmers.
As per the reports, the brand sold 20,594 units of its commercial vehicles in the Indian market. Additionally, Mahindra exports cars to international markets like Australia, which amounted to 23% of their growth in the Indian market. As per the statement by Veejay Nakra, President of the automotive division of M and M, June was a historical month for the brand because they rolled out their 200,00th unit of the XUV700 and also celebrated the 25th anniversary of their Bolero pickup truck. Mahindra sold 69,397 units of their vehicles. It also includes the sales they made from exporting their vehicles outside India.
Sales Made by Bajaj in June
Bajaj did better than their muted expectations in the Indian market. Here, the main contributors are their two-wheelers and their three-wheelers. The Bajaj Pulsar series is famous in the Indian market for performance and the sportiness one can expect from their bike on a budget. Their commercial vehicles are also popular in the market, which brought them sales despite the heatwave in June.
As per the reports, the Pune-based company reported a 5% YoY increase in total sales, which came to 3,58,477 units from 3,40,981 in June 2023. YoY, domestic sales increased by 8%, while export sales increased by 1%. According to a company filing at the exchanges, YoY two-wheeler sales are under pressure in export markets, while YoY three-wheeler sales are strong, up 16%.
In conclusion, the heatwave contributed to the decline of prospective buyers in the Indian market. Some brands like Mahindra and Bajaj still enjoy sales in the market for their products designed specifically for Indian customers. A product can still sell well in the market if the brands in India design it by keeping the consumers in mind. Another thing that benefitted Mahindra and Bajaj is their marketing as a promotion because brands who market a product well in the market get better sales from the customers.
