India’s Carbon Emissions: The Urgent Need for Decarbonization and Technological Advancements

In the world, there are hundreds of countries involved in carbon emissions, but the top three countries that have contributed significantly in the last 4 years are Brazil, China, and India. India is included in the top three countries in carbon emissions, which are dangerous for our health and environment. Globally, 9% of companies are contributing to CO2 emissions, while India has a 12% contribution, which is alarming for the country. Besides the growing industries in India, environmental pollution is also increasing, and it needs to be controlled in a short period.

BCG-CO2 conducted a survey last year, gathering data from administrators of top companies involved in carbon emissions. They collected information from the working areas of industries. The estimated revenue of those industries, which are responsible for carbon emissions, ranges from $200 million to $20 million annually. These companies are responsible for over 40% of global carbon emissions, which is more than we can imagine.

Application/Benefits of Decarburization

We need individuals who can understand the benefits of decarburization. In today’s world, growing industries are more focused on their own profits. They often ignore the environmental impacts of their operations, especially the emission of greenhouse gases, which have been devastating our environment. Over the last three years, it has been recorded that our environment is becoming hotter, and the sun is affecting the earth more intensely, which is alarming for the coming years.

According to a study, 2022, 2023, and 2024 have been the hottest years on record. With growing industries, heat waves are also increasing at full potential, which may lead to an alarming phase that is dangerous for future generations. Many companies in India are benefiting from decarburization by producing their products in an environmentally-friendly way. In India, waste products like lignin, slugs, and smoke from factories can be useful in other ways, such as making new products. Additionally, trash, oil, and scrap lumber are being recycled for other purposes.

Global Warming and Displacement

According to research, the earth’s temperature has increased by 1.5 degrees Celsius. Moreover, over 590 million people have been displaced from their homes due to flooding and rising sea levels. India is among the top contributors to this problem, producing greenhouse gases from both small and large factories.

Latest Technology to Reduce Carbon Emissions

With the growth of industries in India, carbon emissions are also increasing, which is harming the environment. To address this problem, many industries are focusing on achieving net-zero emissions. Net-zero emissions aim to reduce global carbon emissions by 2050, which may be challenging for industries as it requires reducing the production of harmful chemicals.

However, with the latest technology, it is possible to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, which are harmful to both the environment and human health. In India, the use of solar panels in industries and homes is becoming common, which helps reduce electricity consumption and the impact of electricity-generating industries. Additionally, electric cars are gradually replacing petroleum-powered vehicles, which helps reduce greenhouse gases.

In the long term, industries aim to shift their mechanisms from producing harmful gases to achieving zero emissions. While reducing industrial emissions may be difficult, using advanced technologies such as electrification and nuclear systems can help decrease harmful gas production.

The Importance of Trees in Reducing Carbon Emissions

Older research shows that exposure to harmful sun rays can increase the risk of skin aging and diseases by 50%. This risk increases as industries grow. To mitigate this, industries and factories should introduce refining systems for greenhouse gases, which can help decrease emissions.

Cutting down trees has increased global warming by 20%, while planting trees is the simplest and most effective way to combat global warming. Research shows that a single tree can absorb 48 pounds of carbon emissions annually. This means that we don’t need complex technologies if everyone focuses on planting trees to preserve the environment.
