Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, inaugurated the WAVES Creators Corner at the India AI Impact Summit today at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event showcased India’s rapid transition from building foundational digital infrastructure to deploying functional AI solutions. Vaishnaw emphasized the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in the creative economy and India’s growing compute capacity.

Strengthening India’s AI Compute Infrastructure

During the summit, Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a significant update regarding the nation’s technical backbone. India is set to add 20,000 more Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to its current tally, taking the total capacity beyond 38,000 units. This expansion is a cornerstone of the IndiaAI Mission, aimed at providing high-end computing power to startups and researchers at affordable rates.

Currently, these high-end GPUs are available at approximately Rs 65 per hour. This pricing is nearly one-third of the global average, making India one of the most cost-competitive hubs for AI development. “Our goal is to ensure that compute power is not a bottleneck for Indian innovators,” the Minister stated.

The WAVES Creators Corner and Content Strategy

The inauguration of the WAVES Creators Corner highlights the government’s focus on the creator economy. Vaishnaw pointed out that AI is no longer just a backend tool but a front-facing collaborator for content creators. He specifically lauded platforms like Kuku for their potential in using technology to reach diverse audiences.

The Minister urged creators to remain vigilant about AI usage while embracing its efficiency. This move signals a shift in India’s AI strategy, placing design, research, and development (R&D) at the center of the ecosystem.

Massive Investments and Global Collaboration

The India AI Impact Summit is expected to draw investments exceeding USD 200 billion. With USD 90 billion already committed, the government is in active talks with several global giants to further fortify the country’s AI infrastructure.

On the regulatory front, India is collaborating with nearly 30 countries. The objective is to establish a “techno-legal” framework for AI governance. This approach seeks to balance innovation with ethical safeguards, ensuring that AI development remains inclusive and culturally grounded.

Digital Health Initiatives: SAHI and BODH

The summit also saw the launch of two major healthcare initiatives by Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda. The Secure AI for Health Initiative (SAHI) and Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI (BODH) were introduced to integrate AI safely into the healthcare sector.

Minister Nadda remarked that AI thrives on high-quality data and robust infrastructure. He emphasized that healthcare is at the “very heart” of the country’s economic transformation, and these digital tools will ensure evidence-based deployment of technology in medical services.
