The Government of India has approved the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) and the Krishonnati Yojana (KY) with a proposed expenditure of ₹1,01,321.61 crore. These initiatives aim to promote sustainable agriculture and address food security while enhancing agricultural self-sufficiency.
The schemes are designed to increase farmers’ income and ensure food security for the middle class. The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare’s proposal to consolidate various centrally sponsored schemes (CSS) under the Ministry into two umbrella schemes: PM-RKVY and Krishonnati Yojana.
This consolidation allows states to develop a comprehensive agricultural strategy tailored to their unique circumstances. The focus of the initiatives extends beyond just crop production and productivity; they also address emerging issues such as climate-resilient agriculture and the development of value chains for agricultural commodities.
Key objectives of the rationalization include:
📌 Eliminating duplication and ensuring convergence while providing states with flexibility.
Addressing critical agricultural challenges, including nutrition security, sustainability, climate resilience, value chain development, and private sector engagement.
Enabling state governments to create a strategic plan that meets their agricultural needs.
Streamlining the approval process for the Annual Action Plans (AAP) of states, allowing for a single approval rather than individual scheme-wise approvals.
