The Unique Identification Authority of India has again extended the deadline for free Aadhar updates till September 14, 2024. This is not the first time that UIDAI has extended the date to Update the Aadhaar information. One can visit their website’s online portal to update the information like address, name and photo for free till September 14, 2024. While updating the Aadhar card information is free on online portals a fine of 50 rupees might be charged for offline updates. If you choose an online portal the process is simple and easy.

Step 1: Head to the online website https://uidai.gov.in/en/ and log in with your 16-digit Aadhaar number.

Step 2: Go to the “My Aadhaar” section, and find the option button for “Update Your Aadhaar”.

Step 3: Login Securely and provide your Aadhaar number and the phone number linked to your Aadhar. You will get a security code or OTP on your phone for verification.

Step 4: Choose if you need to change address details or provide proof of identity and upload the required documents. Please note that name change updates might fall under this category.

Step 5: Provide scans of the necessary documents like address/identity to match the update of your choice. Make sure that the scan can be read easily and that there are no markings over the writing.

Step 6:Verify all the data that is being delivered and files uploaded to match the correct information provided. Once satisfied, click on the ‘Submit’ button. 

Step 7: You will also be given a Request Update Number commonly known as URN after your update request is accepted.

Proof of Identity

  • Passport
  • Voter Identification Card
  • Pan Card
  • Driving License
  • Marksheet
  • ID cards issued by the government such as domicile, resident certificates and Labour cards.
  • Marriage Card
  • Ration Card

Proof of Address

  • Passport
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months
  • Ration Card
  • Electricity or gas bills for the last 3 months
  • Voter Identification Card
  • Property Tax Receipts of the present year.
  • ID cards issued by the government such as domicile, resident certificates and Labour cards.
